Our Story

Guided by those 14 words espoused by our founder Steve Atkins, Atkins Companies has steadily grown from humble roots as a post-World War II homebuilder into one of the nation’s premier healthcare real estate investors and operators.

Decades in the making, Atkins Companies’ entrance into the healthcare industry has truly been a multigenerational family affair. Under the leadership of Steve’s sons Bob, Chick and Jack, as well as grandson Cory, we have successfully built upon our development roots and relationship-first approach to cement our role as a pioneer in the development and management of state-of-the-art healthcare facilities across the country.

Our unique approach has ensured that we have been able to expand our ‘family’ to many of the nation’s most respected and successful healthcare systems and specialty groups.

With visionary leadership and hands-on management of every property in our portfolio, we continue to embrace the latest trends in design, investment and property management to drive success for our business and our partners.

However, our family leadership knows that one thing will never change – our focus on building relationships and a steadfast commitment to integrity and trustworthiness in all of our work.

Building Communities: Our Commitment to Giving Back 

Rooted in the values of community, integrity, and social responsibility, we’re passionate about investing in the communities we serve by leveraging our commercial real estate expertise and donating our time, talent and resources to make a difference in the lives of others.

We’re proud to be the builder of SMILE (Steven Milford Independent Living Experience), a nonprofit dedicated to establishing safe and uniquely designed homes for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. In 2018, we custom built the first complete independent living facility for SMILE of Hopatcong for adults with special needs, which is home to five residents.  The welcoming and modern 4,700-square-foot space is specially equipped and allows each of the residents to live independently and gain valuable life skills while enjoying their hobbies and social activities. While we’re recognized leaders in healthcare real estate, our experience and operational platform is well diversified. Over our nearly 75-year history, we have developed and managed medical office facilities, retail and mixed-use residential/commercial properties across the nation. We continue to pursue value-add projects across asset classes that enable us to deploy our expertise and strategically grow our portfolio.
